 5390957 Sidney Lawson, Ox & Bucks Light Infantry. 1940 - 1944. Born Sidney Nirenberg of Jewish Russian / Polish parents in the East end of London. Changed his name to Lawson, possibly because of the Nazi persecution of the Jews. Called up in July of 1940, he joined the 1st battalion Ox & Bucks Light Infantry. Transferred to the 5th battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in July 1944, probably due to lack of numbers because of casualties to the Ox & Bucks. He attained the rank of Signal Corporal. |
